Amnesty International and the Negev Coexistence Forum are pleased to invite you to 'UNRECOGNISED': an event about the dispossessed Bedouin minority of the Negev, Israel

THE EXHIBITION:

'Unrecognised' brings together the work of Israeli NGO "Negev Coexistence Forum for Civil Equality" (NCF) and London based photojournalist Silvia Boarini.

NCF  has been running a participatory photography programme for young people in the village of Wadi El Nam led by designer Ilan Molcho. The result is a series of startling and moving images documenting the harsh reality of life for Israel's Negev Bedouins living in unrecognised villages.

Silvia Boarini will present work from her ongoing series 'Bedouin Land'. Her images focus on the village of Al Araqib where she documented life before and after the recent spate of demolitions.

'Unrecognised' will shed light on the unresolved status of Negev Bedouins and the impact of government policies on their daily lives.

THE TALKS:

On November 3rd at 7pm

Yoad Winter, one of the founders of the Arab-Jewish partnership Taayush in Northern Israel and an activist with the Negev Coexistance Forum, will discuss the historical and political circumstances that led the State of Israel to ignore more than 100 of its localities and the on-going Arab-Jewish struggle against discrimination. Yoad will be joined by Ismail Al Turi, a representative from Al Araqib, who will talk about living under the constant threat of demolitions and about the current situation in the village.

On November 4th at 7pm

a panel discussion will tackle the question: 'Can participatory photography change lives?'

Designer Ilan Molcho has been volunteering with the Negev Coexistence Forum to run photography workshops in the unrecognized Bedouin village of Wadi Al Na'am in Southern Israel for two years. By introducing children to the art of photography, the project nurtures their creative skills and allows them to share their view of their community, family and the daily hardships they face.
